The Government of the State of Abia has declared that it is willing to associate with the Abia State Chapter of the Association of Online Media Practitioners of Nigeria (OMPAN), in its recognized task of informing the public and the Abians in general in a adequate and without prejudice.
Dep Governor Sir Ude Oko Chukwu, who made it public when the association paid him a courtesy call, said he can not ignore the role of online media and asked them to avoid using his medium to spread false news.
Oko Chukwu, who also invited online media practitioners to meet and find ways to censor some of the news reports that are distributed for public consumption, frowned at the level that people now use to convey misinformation that does not present good and capable image of the state, practices this can cause harm to the society.
“I want to assure you of the willingness of this particular government to associate with your organization It is important to partner with you because I imagine a situation that in the coming years people will no longer read anything else, except online reports.
“I will appreciate a situation, especially for those of you who are Practitioners, unite to censor most of these things that people give to the public, so that at the end of the day, your goal will not be defeated, because the essence of what you are doing is to educate and inform the masses. “
