WHATSAPP has rolled out a major new update, with the refreshed app adding new than 100 new emoji among other features.
There’s big news for WhatsApp addicts, with the globally popular messaging app rolling out an update that adds a host of major new features.
As part of a sizeable update, WhatsApp has introduced a number of message-enhancing new features including the ability to enjoy more reliable video calling without charge, more stable video downloads and new animated GIF support.
Although the update has been available for iPhone-touting WhatsApp fans for some time, this is the first time the broad array of app-enhancing additions have been made available to Android users.
It’s not just video and GIF content the new update brings to the party, either, with a mass of new emoji joining the mix.
We’re not just talking an extra 10 or 20 pictogram-based word replacements either.
Instead, the latest WhatsApp update adds more than 100 new emoji, letting you spice up your conversations whether you’re chatting about your emotions, dinner or weekend plans.
For many, the new faceplate and selfie emojis are set to be two of the biggest draws, although these are just the tip of the emoji-enhanced iceberg.
Making your messages more 21st Century friendly, the enhanced emoji line up also includes a range of gender and sexuality diverse options.
Following the update, you’ll be able to switch a number of the profession and sports based emoji – such as farmer and doctor – to show as either a male or female character.
You’ll also be able to pepper your messages with the rainbow flag emoji and a number of icons that indicate same sex couples.
Despite the update having been expected to drop alongside Android 7.1 Nougat, given Google’s slow rollout and the new Unicode 9.0 support, WhatsApp has rolled it out early to Android handset owners.
To update your device to the new version of WhatsApp, you’ll need to head to the Google Play Store, and click the ‘Update’ button under the app.
While this will let you send as many new emoji as you could possibly want, the people you’re sending them too will need to have updated too in order for the new additions to display properly.
