The discovery of two human leaders at a crossing in the community of Choba, the local government area of Obio / Akpor in Rivers state, yesterday, generated panic among the residents.
A source told Vanguard that residents of the area woke up yesterday morning to see two male heads displayed at a popular SDA Junction in Choba.
The State Police Command said the killing is not related to the struggle for supremacy between two cult groups in the area, as residents had warned of the increase in murders and other criminal activities recently.
It was learned that the bodies of the men, who have not yet been identified, were found around Ogor street along Igbogo Road, while their heads were discovered at the SDA junction.
The youth president of the Choba community, Francis Ihunda, said: “The people of Choba woke up this morning (yesterday) to discover two bosses at SDA Junction. “It was difficult to identify the victims since their heads were removed from their bodies.”
Ihunda revealed that the police have chosen the chiefs and bodies for further investigation, including when he called on security agents to redouble their efforts to end the senseless killings in the community.
Meanwhile, the supreme ruler of Choba, His Royal Highness, Eze Raymond Wokocha, condemned the development and called for greater security in the community.
Wokocha said the community had vigilantes, but that the cultists began operating freely when they were dissolved by the state government, and asked the relevant authorities to allow Choba to operate his own body of vigilantes to end the cult killings.
He also called on the state government to deploy Neighborhood Vigilance officers in the community.
They were cultists, policemen.
Meanwhile, the Public Relations Officer of the state commando, Nnamdi Omoni, said that the police identified the victims as members of the Deygbam cult.
Omoni said he has begun an investigation into the incident and the search for the killers, adding that no arrests have been made, but that normalcy has returned to the area.
Omoni said: “This morning (yesterday) the Command was received with the news that two bodies were beheaded in Choba. When the men of the Choba Division arrived at the scene of the incident, they saw the two heads and the information of the locals took us to where we recovered the bodies.
“Immediately, our men took the bodies to the morgue. While we speak, we have been able to identify one of the corpses.
“The information on the ground says that members of the Icelandic attacked members of the Deygbam cult and killed them.
“Those who were murdered were also members of a secret cult. His struggle for supremacy led to the two deaths recorded. “
